In
a big push for industrialization in the northern states, the
cabinet’s nod to Amritsar, Delhi and Kolkata Industrial Corridor
have upped the real estate potential of vast swathes of the country.
Possibly
one of the largest projects of the government of India till date,
Amritsar, Delhi Kolkata Industrial Corridor (ADKIC) project will seek
to create world-class infrastructure and change the real-estate
scenario in almost 20 cities.

The
project would comprise a belt of at least 5.5 lakh sq. kms and would
run through seven states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand,
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. These are some of
the most densely populated regions in the world and stock about 40%
of India’s population.
The
Corridor will cover the cities of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana,
Ambala, Saharanpur, Delhi, Roorkee, Moradabad, Allahabad, Varanasi,
Patna, Bareilly, Lucknow, Aligarh, Kanpur, Hazaribagh, Asansol,
Durgapur, Dhanbad and Kolkata. These regions need a major push for
industrialization and job-creation and the ADKIC will act as an
initiator for this growth.
ADKIC
is proposed to be developed in a set of 150-200 kms on either side of
Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. The first phase would involve
setting up of integrated manufacturing clusters of 10 square kms in
each of the states. The manufacturing clusters will be identified by
the state governments.
The
industrial corridor is a promising investment opportunity that will
bring in world class technology, improve economies of scale, attract
more FDI, ensure better connectivity and lead to low logistics cost
and low inventory.
In
addition to this, the project will also enable smooth supply chain
integration and enhance export value. This can work towards
potentially strengthening trade and economic ties and give a big
boost to manufacturing and real estate sectors.
